The teachings of Master Lu Ban reflect the middle way of the carpenter.  While the carpenter should be able to design and build grand structures such as bridges or temples, much of his time is given to more common endeavours such as pigsties, granaries, or coffins.  The more mundane aspects of the trade are counterbalanced by the cosmic role played by the carpenter as a geomancer and sorcerer of the five elements.
